Dr. D. Ian Smith has been with DCL pathologists since 2000 as a Cytopathologist. He is an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
He pursued his residency training in Pathology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, followed by a fellowship in Cytopathology at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Il. Prior to medical school, Dr. Smith earned a PhD at the University of Michigan and conducted grant-supported medical research. Dr. Smith is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical pathology as well as Cytopathology. He is a member of the College of American Pathology (CAP) and the American Society of Cytopathology (ASCP). In 2009, Dr. Smith earned a certificate of Special Expertise in ultrasound-guided FNA from the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Dr. Smith’s professional interests include fine needle biopsy (FNA), immunohistochemistry, information technology, clinical trials consultation, women’s health, and molecular pathology / oncology.
Dr. Smith grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, but has made Indianapolis his home since 2000. He is married with two adult children. He enjoys videography, vinyl LPs, and exercising in his free time.
