What can you expect when you visit our clinic for FNA?

Most FNA procedures take only a few moments. Samples are collected and tested right away, so you leave our clinic with preliminary information about a diagnosis. These preliminary findings are then further tested to confirm the results, and your physician will contact you to provide the final diagnosis and discuss a treatment plan.

Undergoing a biopsy or other diagnostic process can feel like a stressful experience. In addition to the anxiety related to the diagnosis, you may also be concerned about the biopsy process. We tell you what to expect before, during, and after your procedure.

Accurate Results

FNA is less invasive than other biopsy procedures and also provides highly accurate results. Doctors assess the diagnosis and design a treatment plan within just a few days of the procedure. Our high level of accuracy is achieved by combining clinical review, ultrasound examination, a collection of quality tissue samples, and microscopic evaluation. We have a highly qualified physician group who are active members of education committees such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Our team has over 30 years of experience and has diagnosed more than 50,000 FNA cases. Patients and referring physicians can expect:

  • Specimen adequacy – >98 percent
  • Positive predictive value: 97-99 percent
  • False negative rate: 0-3 percent

Your FNA Appointment

We want to make this procedure as easy for you as possible. If you are anxious about your scheduled procedure, or if you experience more pain than expected, we will do our best to keep you comfortable and relaxed. Read about your appointment here.

Before you leave our clinic, you will have an opportunity to discuss your preliminary results with a doctor and ask questions about your case. There’s no need to wait several days after a biopsy to learn the exact nature of the mass. We want you to feel as comfortable and confident as possible.
